Rectory Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 13 September 2026

Overview

This website is operated by Rectory Homeware Ltd, trading as Rectory Candles (“Rectory”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

We provide this website, together with the information, products, features and services available through it, to you subject to these Terms & Conditions.

By visiting our website, placing an order or otherwise using our services (collectively, the “Services”), you agree to these Terms & Conditions together with any other policies referred to on our website, including our Privacy Policy and Returns Policy.

Please read these Terms carefully before using our website. If you do not agree to them, you should not use the website or purchase products through it.

We may introduce new products, services, features or tools from time to time. These will also be subject to these Terms unless stated otherwise.

Our online store is operated using Squarespace and associated third-party services that enable us to offer and sell Rectory products online.

1. Online Store Terms

By placing an order through our website, you confirm that you are legally able to enter into a contract to purchase the products concerned or have the permission of a parent or guardian where required.

You must not use our website, products or Services for any unlawful or unauthorised purpose or in a way that breaches applicable laws or regulations.

You must not introduce viruses, malicious code or other material that could damage or interfere with the website or Services.

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to our website where these Terms are materially breached.

2. General Conditions

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order where we have a legitimate reason to do so, including suspected fraud, pricing or stock errors, or misuse of our website.

You may not reproduce, copy, duplicate, sell, resell or commercially exploit any part of our website, its content or Services without our prior written permission.

The headings used in these Terms are provided for convenience and do not affect their interpretation.

3. Website Information

We take reasonable care to ensure that information displayed on the Rectory website is accurate and up to date.

However, information may occasionally contain errors or become out of date. Information provided on our website is intended primarily to describe our products and Services and should not be treated as professional or specialist advice.

We may update, correct or change website content when necessary.

4. Prices and Changes to Our Services

Prices displayed on our website may change from time to time.

Any change in price will not affect an order that has already been accepted by us, except where there has been an obvious pricing error or where otherwise permitted by law.

We may add, alter or discontinue products or parts of our Services at any time.

5. Products

Many Rectory products are produced or finished in small batches. Availability may therefore vary and some products may only be available in limited quantities.

Products purchased from us are subject to our Returns Policy and your statutory consumer rights.

We make every reasonable effort to display our candles, vessels, labels, colours and other products accurately. However, colours may appear slightly different depending upon your screen, device and display settings.

Because some Rectory products are hand-poured or handmade, minor variations between individual products may occur. These small variations are part of the nature of small-batch production and do not necessarily constitute a fault.

Product descriptions, availability and prices may occasionally be changed or updated.

We reserve the right to limit quantities available for purchase where reasonably necessary, including where stock is limited or we believe products are being purchased for unauthorised resale.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

6. Candle Use and Safety

Rectory candles and home-fragrance products must be used in accordance with the safety information, instructions and warnings supplied with the product.

Customers are responsible for following the relevant candle-care and safety instructions.

Candles should always be used responsibly and should never be left burning unattended. Keep burning candles away from children, pets, draughts and flammable materials, and place them on an appropriate stable, heat-resistant surface.

Always follow any additional instructions or warnings supplied with the individual product.

Nothing in this section limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

7. Orders, Billing and Account Information

When you place an order, you agree to provide current, complete and accurate information so that we can process your payment, fulfil your order and contact you if necessary.

Once you place an order, you should receive an order confirmation. This acknowledges that we have received your order.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order where reasonably necessary, including where:

  • a product is unavailable;

  • there is an obvious pricing or product-description error;

  • payment cannot be authorised;

  • we reasonably suspect fraudulent activity; or

  • we believe an order has been placed for unauthorised commercial resale.

If payment has already been taken for an order that we subsequently cancel, we will refund the relevant amount.

We may limit quantities purchased by an individual, household or order where reasonably necessary.

Further information about cancellations, returns and refunds can be found in our Returns Policy.

8. Payment

Payment must be made using one of the payment methods offered during checkout.

Payments may be processed on our behalf by third-party payment providers. Your use of a particular payment method may also be subject to that provider's own terms and privacy policy.

We do not guarantee that every payment method will be available at all times.

9. Delivery

We will make reasonable efforts to dispatch and deliver orders within the estimated times stated on our website.

Delivery times are estimates unless expressly stated otherwise and may occasionally be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Customers are responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address when placing an order.

Our delivery, postage and related customer-service arrangements are explained further on the relevant delivery or customer-service pages of our website.

10. Third-Party Services and Tools

We may use or provide access to third-party services and tools as part of operating our website.

These may include services relating to payments, delivery, website functionality, analytics or other ecommerce functions.

Third-party services may be governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Rectory is not responsible for third-party services to the extent that responsibility properly rests with the relevant third-party provider.

Your use of optional third-party services is subject to the terms applicable to those services.

11. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to websites or services operated by third parties.

These websites are not controlled by Rectory and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices.

If you choose to purchase goods or services from a third party through a link on our website, that transaction will generally be between you and the relevant third party.

You should review the applicable terms and policies before entering into a transaction with another business.

12. Reviews, Feedback and Other Submissions

If you send us a product review, feedback, suggestion, photograph or other content, you confirm that you have the right to provide that material and that it does not infringe another person's intellectual property, privacy or other legal rights.

You must not submit material that is unlawful, misleading, abusive, defamatory, obscene or malicious, or which contains viruses or other harmful code.

Where you submit a review or other content for publication, you give Rectory permission to display and use that content in connection with our website, products and reasonable marketing activities, unless otherwise agreed.

We may remove content from our website where we reasonably believe that it is unlawful, inappropriate, misleading or infringes the rights of another person.

13. Personal Information

Our collection and use of personal information is governed by the Rectory Privacy Policy.

Please review our Privacy Policy for information about the personal information we collect, why we use it, how it may be shared and your data-protection rights.

14. Errors and Inaccuracies

Occasionally our website may contain typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions relating to product descriptions, pricing, offers, delivery charges, availability or other information.

Where appropriate, we reserve the right to correct such errors and update information.

If an error affects an order you have already placed, we will deal with the matter fairly and in accordance with applicable UK consumer law.

15. Prohibited Uses

You must not use our website or its content:

  • for an unlawful or fraudulent purpose;

  • to encourage another person to undertake unlawful activity;

  • to infringe our intellectual property rights or those of another person;

  • to submit deliberately false or misleading information;

  • to upload or transmit viruses, malware or other harmful code;

  • to collect personal information about others unlawfully;

  • to spam, phish, scrape or otherwise misuse the website;

  • to interfere with the security or operation of our website or Services; or

  • in any way that breaches applicable law.

We may restrict or terminate access to the website where we reasonably believe it is being misused.

16. Intellectual Property

The content of the Rectory website, including the Rectory name and branding, logos, product photography, product descriptions, graphics, label designs, website design and other original content, belongs to Rectory Homeware Ltd or is used by us with permission.

Such material is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

You may view and use our website for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify or commercially use Rectory content without our prior written permission.

17. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

We take reasonable care in providing our website, products and Services. However, we cannot guarantee that our website will always be uninterrupted, completely secure or free from technical errors.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

In particular, nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights relating to products that are faulty, not as described or not of satisfactory quality.

To the extent permitted by law, Rectory Homeware Ltd will not be responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract between us was formed or for business losses arising from purchases made primarily for personal use.

18. Indemnity

Where permitted by law, if you use our website for commercial purposes or materially breach these Terms, you may be responsible for reasonable losses or costs that Rectory incurs as a direct result of that breach.

Nothing in this section affects rights or protections available to consumers under applicable law.

19. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found by a court or other competent authority to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be treated as removed or modified to the minimum extent necessary.

The remaining provisions will continue to apply.

20. Termination

These Terms apply while you use our website or Services.

You may stop using the website at any time.

We may suspend or terminate access to our Services where we reasonably believe that you have materially breached these Terms or used the website unlawfully.

Any rights or obligations that have arisen before termination will continue where appropriate.

21. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Returns Policy and any other policies expressly referred to in them, form the agreement governing your use of our website and purchases made through it.

If we do not immediately enforce a right available to us under these Terms, this does not mean that we have waived that right.

22. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions and any contract between you and Rectory Homeware Ltd are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also benefit from mandatory rights and protections provided by the laws applicable where you live.

Nothing in these Terms prevents you from exercising any rights you have under applicable consumer law.

23. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally to reflect changes to our products, Services, website, business practices or legal and regulatory requirements.

The latest version will be available on this page and the “Last updated” date will be amended when changes are made.

Changes will not retrospectively alter the terms applicable to an order already accepted by us unless required by law.
